The Literature Educators Association of the Philippines Incorporated (LEAP, Inc.) invites literature educators, scholars, and researchers to contribute to the DALIN Journal Special Issue with the theme "Gendering Literature and Literature Teaching." It will be co-edited by Joey Andrew Santos, PhD, from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan.
The Special Issue aims to provide spaces for scholarly writing and creative productions that explore, think/rethink, or interrogate the intersections of gender and literature, including the implications for teaching literature and gender in the Basic or Higher Education setting. It further seeks contributions that can shed light on the multifaceted relationship among gender, literature, and pedagogy.
Integrating Gender and Literature has become a significant area of inquiry. Literature, as a potent medium of expression, echoes and influences societal understandings of gender roles, identities, and experiences. It even serves as a platform, albeit occasionally as a driver, to reinforce or interrogate existing gender norms. Furthermore, literature teaching plays a critical role in engaging students with diverse literary works, fostering critical thinking, and promoting social awareness.
This Special Issue—as a scholarly and creative space—aims to address, but is not limited to the following themes,
-
Gender Representation in Literature: Examining how literature portrays gender roles, identities, and stereotypes, including examinations of impact of gender representation on readers’ understanding and perception.
-
Feminist Literature: Examining the contributions of feminist literature in challenging/interrogating traditional gender norms, empowering marginalized voices, and fostering social change. It may also include research on employing a feminist lens in literature teaching.
-
LGBTQ+ Representation in Literature: Problematizing the representation of LGBTQ+ characters, themes, and narratives in literature. It may include discussions of LGBTQ+ literature in creating inclusive and diverse educational environments (i.e., challenges, affordances, etc.).
-
Gender and Pedagogy: Exploring gender-responsive approaches in teaching literature. It includes descriptions and examination of strategies for promoting gender equality, addressing gender biases, and engaging students in critical discussions about gender in literature. It also covers policy implications and responsive academic practices as necessary.
